We all know that house… the one where the weeds grow thick across the shuttered windows, and the neighbor kids flee when the shadows move across the unpainted walls. They foolishly dare each other to knock on the old door… they peer at their target, fearful of what may happen should one of them accept the challenge. Owensboro has one of these houses. It’s location is well known to the residents of 2nd Street, and they call it the "Slaughter on 2nd Street".
In this house dwells the Killmore family. Their story isn’t clear, the years of rumors and uncertainty have shrouded the reality. The little that is known chills the blood of the good, God-fearing folks of Owensboro. You see, the Kilmores aren’t your typical family. These wretched souls are said to behave in the most horriffic ways. Small pets and unattended children have disappeared from that street, never to be seen again. Blood has flowed from the front steps and evil creatures stare from the upper windows.
Several generations of the family are said to live there waiting to find other poor souls who wander into their lair. Reports of the missing have lead police to this block. Local shopkeepers claim to have heard terrifying screams from the building, though no one has ever been seen leaving. Businesses have folded, even imploded when established too close to this property. The Kilmore curse continues to this day.
The cautious children do not throw rocks at this house. They leave a wide path when nearing the boarded up 2 story building. Mothers huddle their children close to them as they pass. Bad things are supposed to happen there…deadly, evil things. Only in the Fall do the brave (or is it the fool-hardy) gather their courage and knock at the heavy wooden door seeking to enter the lair willingly.
It would be wise to limit your visits to this place to the weekends in October. When you do….be sure to bring brave, strong friends and pray your screams are not the last time you are heard from again.
